Your Body is speaking

A 10-15 minute somatic orientation for when something is asking to be noticed, met and acknowledged.

Maybe you’re overwhelmed.

Maybe you’re tired in a way that sleep doesn’t seem to resolve.

Maybe you’ve been pushing through for so long that you don’t quite know what you need any more.

That’s ok.

It’s ok when perhaps things don’t respond in the way they once did.

Even if it may not feel like it - your body is doing something incredible.

It’s saying it’s ready for something different.

For the next 10-15 minutes, you’re invited to slow down and notice what’s already here - and explore what your experience may be here to share with you.

What if you don’t need another answer?

We humans can be remarkably skilled at moving away from our ourselves.

We override fatigue.

We push through tension.

Distract ourselves from discomfort.

Keep performing when lives asks for a different pace. Boundary. Choice.

Eventually we can become so accustomed to overriding ourselves we lose the ability to recognize what we are experiencing. To locate what is alive beneath the attention.

Somatic work begins somewhere different.

By noticing what is present.

Because sensations, impulses, emotions, patterns, and responses are information.

We don’t have to immediately act on them.

Rather we can learn to witness, if but for a moment ~

“What is here?”

in this short experience, you’ll be invited to

notice:

begin where you are, rather than where you think you should be

sense:

bring attention to what is happening in your experience without needing to change it

orient:

consider your experience in the context of your life - not in isolation from it

choose:

explore what is possible when you respond from awareness versus what is familiar

There is no right or wrong here.

No need to have experience in meditation.

You don’t need to know anything about somatics.

You don’t need to feel calm or peaceful by the end.

The invitation is to become just a little more available

to your current experience.

Begin here

Find a place where you can be uninterrupted for about 10-15 minutes.

You can sit, stand, or move. There is no particular position you need to take.

Feel free to listen to your body if you wish to adjust or change shapes.

Before you Move On

Take another moment.

Notice what is different.

Not necessarily better.

Just different.

What did you notice that you hadn’t noticed before?

Was there a sensation, thought, image, tension, felt-sense,

desire or realization that became more apparent?

What happened when you stopped trying to

solve the experience and stay present with it?

There may not be an obvious answer.

That’s okay.

Somatic work isn’t about learning to interpret every sensation correctly.

It’s about developing a relationship with your own experience;

so that you have more information available when it is time to respond.
